Since both present tense stemchange verbs and preterite are new material to most students, Unit I demands many extra hours for complete mastery of these essential tenses.  MASTERY of all present and preterite tense verbs must be required in this first unit.  Second semester pacing is faster.  When students are introduced to imperfect in Unit II, they must be completerly comfortable with all present and preterite verbs.
